SLD Read is a non-profit community resource established to provide literary support for students and individuals who have not succeeded with traditional teaching methods. We help individuals with dyslexia, learning differences, and other reading challenges to develop lifelong language skills through our multisensory  program. SLD Read operates in Grand Rapids, Big Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek.

Sld Read’s Phonics Fundamentals(c) curriculum is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. It is a research based program that teaches structured phonics, phonological awareness, knowledge of syllable division rules, spelling rules, and generalizations in a multisensory way. Lessons are presented in a systematic, cumulative, sequential fashion.

Tutoring provides one-to-one tutor/student lessons for people of all ages, held a minimum of twice weekly. A sliding scale is used to determine fees based on family size and income. All tutors are trained in the SLD Read’s Phonics Fundamentals(c) training program which has been accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC).
